Dr. Ashish Kumar Chowdhary

Dr. Ashish Kumar Chowdhary is presently an Assistant Professor at IIT Roorkee in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Previously, he was a Post-Doctoral fellow at the Center for Disruptive Photonic Technologies, NTU Singapore. He earned a B. Tech degree with distinction in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the NIT Durgapur in 2015 and a dual degree [M. S. (in Engineering) and PhD] with the Best Thesis Award in Microelectronics, Photonics, and RF in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at IIT Guwahati in 2022. Between 2015 and 2017, he gained two years of work experience in the telecom industry at Ericsson India Global Services in India and Africa. His research interests are mainly focused on emerging areas such as nanophotonics, metamaterials, terahertz sensing, terahertz communication, and AI/ML techniques within these domains. He specialises in developing theory, modelling, and simulation of smart, tunable optical devices. During his PhD, he published over 20 research papers and filed a couple of patents. His research on 'Smart Windows' and 'Radiative Coolers' attracted significant attention from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and was featured across over 400 national and international news channels. He is a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant 2025 by ANRF, Govt. of India, Post-Doctoral Fellowship at NTU Singapore in 2023, Best Thesis Award Medal 2022 at IIT Guwahati, and AWSAR Award 2021 by DST, Govt. of India. He was selected for the highly competitive Incubic Milton Chang travel grant and the best poster award at the CLEO Conference 2021, one of the flagship conferences in nanophotonics and metamaterials. He is a member of the IEEE Photonics Society and the Optical Society of America.
